History/Overview
The Audi A7 is a four-door fastback sized and priced to slot in between the A6 and A8 sedans. It was fully redesigned in 2019 and carries over into 2020 with minor additions to its standard features list.
Available Trims
The A7 Sportback is offered in Progressiv and Technik trim levels. Both are powered by Audi's 48-volt mild hybrid 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine, which comes matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Quattro AWD.
Standard Features
New to the A7 Sportback Progressiv for 2020 is a first aid kit.
Among the A7 Sportback's standard exterior and mechanical features are 19-inch wheels, auto engine start/stop, rain-sensing wipers, passive keyless entry, an electric tailgate, a speed-sensitive rear spoiler, LED headlights and taillights with dynamic range adjustment and dynamic rear turn signals, cruise control, and drive modes.
Interior items include Audi Connect security, assistance, navigation and infotainment services, the Audi smartphone interface, leather seating, ambient interior lighting, an integrated garage door opener, electric steering wheel adjustments, three-zone automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel, eight-way power front seats with comfort headrests, driver memory and four-way lumbar, heated front and rear seats, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, navigation, and a leatherette dashboard with ash wood inlays.
Standard safety features comprise tire pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, Audi pre-sense basic collision avoidance assist, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, and exit assist.
New for Technik trim this year are Amazon Alexa integration and an air ionizer and fragrance dispenser.
Technik builds on Progressiv trim with the addition of a different wheel design, power door closers, lighted door sills, HD matrix LED headlights, a B&O 3D stereo, a 360-degree exterior camera system, head-up driver display, loose wheel detection, four-way front passenger lumbar, headlight washers, a digital gauge cluster, a rear window shade, ventilated front seats, four-zone climate control, adaptive windshield wipers, and power-folding side mirrors.
Key Options
Progressiv trim can be optioned with the Technik's matrix LED headlights in a package that includes washers, dynamic turn signals and leaving/welcome light animations.
Both trims offer an S line package (20-inch wheels, sport suspension, special bumpers and a black headliner) and a driver asisstant pack that brings traffic sign recognition, active cruise control and a number of other assists.
Technik can be had with all-wheel steering, and an individual contour seat option brings 14-way power front seats with massage, passenger seat memory and a full Valcona leather interior.
Fuel Economy
As of this writing, Audi had not published fuel consumption estimates for its 2020 lineup, but they should be similar, if not identical to, those for the 2019 model, at 10.7/8.2 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
There are a surprising number of cars that compete for a surprising number of fans of upscale hatchbacks like the A7. In the premium luxury space, there's the Porsche Panamera and BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe. Move down a rung, price-wise, and you'll find cars like the Buick Regal GS, the Volkswagen Arteon and the Kia Stinger.
